3G Progressive Phase Out

  • What will happen to the 3G network

    We are reinforcing our commitment to availability, quality, and accessibility by providing access to the most advanced technologies throughout the country via our 4G and 5G networks, which offer greater coverage, speed, and capacity. 
    Therefore, to provide you with the best service and the most innovative solutions, we will be phasing out 3G technology for our voice and mobile internet services betweenSeptember 4, 2023, and January 31, 2024.


    The services are now guaranteed by:
    • Voice: over 2G or 4G/5G if you have VoLTE 
    • Data: for 4G/5G

  • Advantages of the 4G and 5G network

    With the transition from 3G to 4G technology, customers can enjoydownload speeds up to 5 times faster—and even faster with the move to5G(up to 72 times faster).

    The actual download and upload speeds at any given time depend on a number of factors, including: the speeds supported by the device, coverage in that area or location, use inside buildings, the number of simultaneous users, the number of apps open on the device, the operating system, etc.


    Main benefits of the 4G and 5G network:

      • better audio quality (HD – High Definition, EVS – Enhanced Voice Service)

  • What happens to my mobile phone SIM card?

    Cell Phone or Mobile Router
    Mobile devices with 2G and 3G networks will continue to have access to the mobile network via 2G technology.
    To get the best experience when using voice and data services with 4G and 5G technologies, you’ll need a compatible mobile device. Check your device’s specifications or visit theMEO Online Storeto see our recommendations for 5G devices. 


    SIM Card
    If your phone is older and doesn't support 4G or 5G networks, you can upgrade it for free through Helplines (see the tariff).

    NOTE: At the UZO Kiosk , you can only request one duplicate SIM Card SIM in the case of postpaid mobile number portability to UZO.

  • When will I no longer have access to the 3G network?

    The 3G network will be phased out across the entire country according to the map.

    Some districts have municipalities with different dates; for more detailed information on the dates for each municipality, please refer to theplan by municipality.
